There’s plenty to look forward to in March in Portland.
🕝 Time Change
But to start, here’s something you may not be looking forward to. This Sunday, at 2 a.m., set your clocks forward an hour. Yes, most people agree our system of a twice-a-year time change should end, and yet our elected officials haven’t gotten it together to actually do that. But spring’s daylight saving time does mean later sunsets with more light in the evenings. And spring also means more daylight in general.
🍴 Portland Dining Month
For the first time since the pandemic, Portland Dining Month is back. More than 100 restaurants are offering three-course meals. Some are offering a $35 option; others, $55 meals. They look delicious.
- Also: It’s Portland Mercury Sandwich Week right now, with $10 lunches across town.
- Plus: It’s Portland’s inaugural Espresso Martini Month.
- Related: Portland Monthly spotlighted two notable restaurant openings last month: Il Corso in the Pearl District, replaced a champagne bar, and Bbang! opened in the brick-and-mortar location next to Holy Ghost bar. [Portland Monthly]
🫛 A CSA Fair
It’s a good time to line up a CSA for the summer. It’s a great way to get your summer produce and support local farms. If you don’t have a favorite farm picked out, there’s a free Portland CSA Share Fair on March 15 with lots of options to explore. [Bridgetown Bites]
📚 PCC Classes
If you’re looking to turn over a new leaf this spring, Portland Community College’s continuing education courses offer some fun options to go back to school. There’s everything from standup paddleboarding to astrology and tarot classes. Registration for the spring term for noncredit classes begins March 4.
Other tips for the changing season:
- The Portland Zoo has a discount on admission through March 6. The zoo just welcomed a pair of bongos, a critically endangered antelope species.
- Saturday Market opens back on March 7.
- Keep an eye out for the cherry blossoms on the waterfront. (Expect a crowd of your fellow Portlanders.)
- Start planning your garden. Portland Nursery has an official planting schedule.
