I love beginning the week with some good food — and good food news to take the sting out of a Monday:

🎉 Dine Well for South Asian Heritage Month

Celebrate South Asian Heritage Month (July 18 to Aug. 17) — with food! The Oregonian has a run-down for the occasion of restaurants and food carts that have opened or expanded in the last year — including Shera Indian Food (in the Richmond neighborhood), Daawat A Ishq (in the Cully neighborhood), Zaiqa (in South Waterfront), Mouthful Momo (in Hillsboro and Aloha). 🍴 3 New Places To Dine Right Now

Where should we eat right now? Brooke Jackson-Glidden, Portland Monthly’s new editor-in-chief (formerly Eater Portland’s editor), shares her picks for three recently opened establishments. They include the Japanese restaurant Akizawa and two bars: Bar Loon (from the same team behind Montavilla’s Bellwether Bar) and Dolly Olive (the new bar that features all the food from next-door Dolly Olive). [Portland Monthly]

🥇 America’s Best String Cheese

Don Froylan Creamery in Salem officially makes the country’s best string cheese, according to the American Cheese Society. Named after the cheesemaker’s daughter, Liliana’s String Cheese is available at Market of Choice, local Mexican stores, and online — from Alpenrose. [Oregonian]

📚 Portland Memoir About Group Living and Food

Lola Milholland, founder of the Portland ramen noodle company Umi Organic, has written a memoir about cohabiting with her brother and friends into adulthood. “Group Living and Other Recipes” is about giving, sharing, and food. [Portland Monthly]
