What Portland's Talking About

Nike’s Very Bad Day On Wall Street

Shareholders experienced the second-worst day in the company’s public trading history as the stock dipped by 15%. Despite the selloff, executives continue to tout the retail giant’s turnaround plan — which CEO Elliott Hill admits is taking longer than hoped. The dip came after another weak sales report in the Chinese market. [Oregonian]

Blazers Fined $100K

The NBA levied a six-figure fine on the Portland Trail Blazers for contacting rookie Yang Hansen before he was eligible for the draft. Hansen was drafted in 2025, but the Blazers reached out to him in 2023. The association also suspended assistant general managers Mike Schmitz and Sergi Oliva for two weeks. [KGW]

East Portland’s Food Desert Grows

Grocery stores are already hard to come by on the east side, and the problem is about to get worse. The lease for the California-based Grocery Outlet in the Parkrose neighborhood ends this summer. This comes months after the Parkrose location owner warned city leaders he might need to close because of persistent public safety issues. Fred Meyer closed its Gateway Shopping Center location last fall. [Oregonian]

Another Measles Exposure Case

Health officials are warning about another confirmed case of measles in Multnomah County. A patient who visited the Providence Portland Medical Center on Northeast Glisan Street on the evening of March 30 may have exposed others in the waiting room. Across the state, there have been at least 11 confirmed cases of the highly contagious virus this year (so far). [OPB]

This mural, by artist Joshua Lawyer, is in Tigard.

It’s located on Southwest Tigard Street under the 99W overpass along Tigard’s Heritage Trail — there’s a bunch of art to see there.

Shoutout to readers Emily Pierce, Mari., and Billie Wright for identifying the location.

This week’s scavenger hunt comes from photographer Mark E. McClure:

Please click here to submit the location — and, for unofficial bonus points, anything you know about it.

If you’re new to the newsletter, there’s a scavenger hunt every Friday. In next week’s newsletter, I’ll reveal the answer and shout out the first 10 readers who respond correctly.

More Portland Events

🛍️ One more thing: As the Lloyd Center prepares to close, you might be wondering what will happen to local businesses in the mall. The Oregonian called up shops to find out, including Floating World Comics and Lego store Brickdiculous — who are both planning moves to Pioneer Place. And nonprofit Secondhand Pet Supply is already opening its new Northeast location Saturday. Happy shopping!
