After delays and confusion, updated COVID-19 vaccines are now widely available — just like in years’ past.
Where can I find a COVID-19 vaccine?
At local pharmacies, clinics, and doctors’ offices.
For adults and children over 7 years of age, appointments can be booked online for Safeway, Albertsons, Fred Meyer, or Walgreens. Or walk into the Hollywood neighborhood’s beloved LeCare Pharmacy, among other spots.
Younger children need to go to a clinic or doctor’s office.
Is it still free?
Anyone covered by the Oregon Health Plan gets their shot for free, and many insurance plans will also continue to provide it at no cost. Tip: Call your insurance before you go.
Why did Oregon make sure the shot was available for everyone?
Oregon joined California, Washington, and Hawaii in making the vaccine available when the federal government had sent mixed messages and, at times, shared straight-up misinformation.
Seven northeastern states took similar action.
The approach tracked the advice from national medical groups: the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), who all want the vaccine available for their patients.
Why get vaccinated?
There’s evidence that people who get the shot have better health outcomes.
And while you’re getting your COVID shot, you may want to prepare yourself for the other risks of respiratory virus season: It’s recommended everyone get an updated flu shot too. An RSV vaccine is recommended for babies, older adults, and others with health risks.
